Mindful Growth Therapy
Anxiety
Clients who struggle with anxiety often feel nervous, excessively worry about things, feel restless or on edge, and may feel like something bad is going to happen without knowing any details. Anxiety can be overwhelming and exhausting because of the high energy associated with it and the never-ending racing thoughts that seem to be more present at night. Clients who experience anxiety in any form can expect to learn coping skills to manage their symptoms, while also challenging negative thoughts or cognitive distortions. CBT, DBT, and mindfulness can be especially useful for clients who want to take control over their anxiety.

Depression
Clients who experience depression typically have a sad mood for most of the week, low energy, appetite and weight changes, sleep issues, difficulty concentrating, and little to no motivation to get things done. Depression can prevent a person from engaging in life in any capacity and affects many different aspects. Experiencing depression without using tools and skills can have harmful results and I strive to help clients learn the skills they need so they can manage their depression more effectively. CBT, Behavior Therapy, DBT, and psychodynamic therapy are the most commonly used modalities for clients with depression.

Multicultural Issues
Multicultural issues are becoming more present in the realm of mental health. Multicultural issues typically include discrimination based on race, gender, and gender identity sexual identity and orientation, disability, and religion. The more discrimination and oppression marginalized populations experience, the higher the need becomes for clients who do not "fit in" to "normative" groups. As a BIPOC therapist, I advocate for clients in minority populations and help break the negative stigma of accessing mental health care. Unlike other mental health issues, there is a broad range of therapy modalities to process these issues. I use empathy, cultural sensitivity and awareness, and a non-judgmental stance with clients who come to me for multicultural issues.
Trauma
Trauma can present itself differently in each person who has endured any type of trauma in their life. Clients may experience nightmares or flashbacks, become hyper-aware of their surroundings, avoid things that remind them of their trauma, have anxiety and/or depression, or are unable to recall parts of their life because of the trauma they experienced. Trauma does not have one clear definition and I tell my clients something or someone had a huge, negative impact on their life can be considered as their trauma. Before processing trauma, I ensure clients have the necessary coping skills they need in order to prevent retraumatization. Modalities used for trauma can include CBT, DBT, behavior therapy, and narrative therapy. I can provide a client with referrals for therapists who have specialized treatments for trauma including brainspotting or Eye Movement Rapid Desensitization (EMDR).
Addiction
Addiction continues to be a rampant issue for mental health providers. Clients who are struggling with addiction typically try to stop using but find themselves relapsing more than they would like, have alienated family members or friends, have stolen money or goods from the people in their lives to keep paying for their addiction, and have been through both residential and outpatient treatment facilities. Addiction impacts so many parts of a person's life and can have detrimental effects with continued use. CBT, Motivational Interviewing, and process therapy are common modalities I use for clients who are struggling to manage their addictions. I strongly encourage anonymous meetings and working with a sponsor in conjunction with therapy.

Self-Esteem
Clients who have low self-esteem usually have low confidence in themselves and their abilities, become upset by receiving criticism, avoid activities where they may be judged, and have negative thoughts about themselves. Clients who see themselves as unworthy or unlovable often withdraw from others or stop taking care of themselves. Self-esteem issues can cause a person to view the world with a negative lens and believe they will not be able to change how they feel or look. CBT, REBT, psychodynamic therapy, narrative therapy, and journaling exercises are types of therapy I incorporate into therapy sessions for clients who are looking to increase their self-esteem.
